Attic Fans
Attic fans are an economical and integral part of making your home more energy efficient. Most homes are built in our area with a ridge vent. A ridge vent is a passive system that theoretically allows air to escape naturally from the attic. Even with a ridge vent, temperatures in the attic will exceed 140 degrees in the summer. It simply is not effective at removing the heat we experience here in the south from the attic.
Attic Tents
Attic tents are an affordable option to reduce air and dust transfer between your attic and living area. The air tight barrier produced by an attic tent will reduce energy loss year round. Most experts agree the attic tent will pay for itself in 1-3 years.
GF Series Garage Ventilation Fans
THE GF Series Garage Ventilation Fans keep your garage cooler. The GF-14 Garage Fan and Attic Cooler is designed to mount in the ceiling of the garage, venting to the attic and the GF-14 through-the-wall venting to the outside. Properly-sized intake vents are mounted in the garage door taking in outside ambient air. The GF-14 moves air into a typical attic relative to the house forcing the super-heated attic air out the attic vents, which may include gable vents, ridge vents, dormer vents, whirl…
Insulation
Proper insulation is the foundation of any approach towards energy efficiency. Most homes in the south are insulated on the attic floor and the department of energy recommends installing a R49. This equates to about 17” of fiberglass insulation. This may seem like a lot of insulation but it’s the minimum requirement to combat the intense heat homes in the south experience throughout much of the year.
Radiant Barrier
Radiant barrier is a metallic foil used to create a thermal shield that blocks radiant heat from any direction. We typically recommend radiant barrier in addition to attic fans as a two prong approach in optimizing energy efficiency in your home. We recommend and install Radiantguard radiant barriers. They block 97% of the radiant heat. Lowering the temperatures above living space ceilings provides a significant benefit by reducing air conditioning loads and energy usage.
Tubular Skylights
We recommend and install “Natural light tubular skylights.” They differ from traditional skylights in both form and functionality. The patented technology provides consistent light throughout the day and all year long unlike the shifting pattern of light you get with traditional skylights.
